Portable Hyperbaric Chambers

Where Portable Chambers Came From
The portable chamber began as an emergency and evacuation tool. Mild HBOT: The Modern Home Segment
Today the largest market for portable chambers is not emergency medicine but home wellness. Modern soft-shell chambers operate at 1.3–1.5 ATA — a range usually called mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT). They are constructed from urethane-coated fabric with zipper or clamp seals, pressurized by an external compressor, and paired with an oxygen concentrator so the user breathes elevated-concentration oxygen through a mask inside the pressurized envelope.
It is important to understand what separates this equipment from clinical chambers. Monoplace and multiplace hospital chambers deliver 100% oxygen at 2.0–3.0 ATA, the dose range used in the FDA-recognized indications. A soft-shell chamber at 1.3 ATA delivers a much smaller physiological dose. That does not make it useless — users report benefits for recovery, sleep and general wellness, and the lower pressure profile has a favorable safety record — but it is a different product for a different purpose, and vendors who blur that line should be treated with caution.

- Contraindications: untreated pneumothorax is an absolute contraindication for any pressurization, and ear-equalization problems, certain lung conditions and some medications require medical clearance first.
