Monoplace Hyperbaric Chambers
Monoplace Hyperbaric Chambers are designed to treat one person at a time. Chamber's pressure compartment is typically a cylindrical metal or acrylic crystal clear tube allowing a person to observe her surroundings and facilitated with increased comfort and mobility features.
During Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy patient does not wear mask, hood or head tent for oxygen delivery rather breathing 100% pure oxygen used to pressurize the chamber. The pressure achieved in Monoplace Hyperbaric Chambers is limited 3 ATA*.
How a Monoplace Treatment Works
A typical monoplace session lasts 90–120 minutes. The chamber is flushed and then pressurized with 100% oxygen to the prescribed treatment pressure — commonly 2.0–2.4 ATA for wound care and most other clinical indications. Because the entire atmosphere is oxygen, the patient simply breathes normally; there is no mask discipline to maintain, which is one reason monoplace chambers dominate outpatient wound-care practice in the United States.
The single-occupant design has trade-offs. Staff cannot physically reach the patient during treatment, so patients requiring hands-on intensive care are usually treated in multiplace chambers where an attendant is pressurized alongside them. The oxygen-rich atmosphere also imposes strict fire-safety rules: no static-generating fabrics, no electronics, meticulous grounding — a discipline the hyperbaric community takes extremely seriously.
Acrylic, Steel, and the Modern Hard-Shell Segment
Hospital monoplace chambers are traditionally clear acrylic cylinders: the transparency reduces claustrophobia and lets staff observe the patient continuously. Steel and aluminum designs with viewports trade visibility for higher pressure ratings and durability.
In recent years a third category has grown quickly: compact rigid chambers built for clinics, wellness centers and private homes. These are engineered to the same basic principle as hospital monoplace units — a rigid vessel rated for 1.5–2.0 ATA — but sized and priced for smaller facilities.
